As an intern in New York City this summer there are three words that describe me: young. broke. and fabulous (yeah, I know it's a clothing line but I'm the reality TV special!). I want to do all of the hip things in the City but I don't want to pay money for them, so instead of resulting in illegal activities I found things for free -- or very discounted, which has lead to my almost perfect summer. (#holdingbackmyperfectsummer: I haven't found a summer fling and I haven't gotten an iPhone -- apparently their both out of stock)

Let's Go On A Living Spree:

Apple Soho Store iTunes Concerts: Thanks to Steve Jobs I've gotten to see some of my favorite performers this summer (still no iPhone though) These concerts are usually held during the week at around 7:00 p.m. Where else would you get a free hour-long intimate Talib Kweli concert? The highlight of my summer was rocking out with The Roots from the second row (since I they looked like little bugs at the Prospect Park concert, I was sooo far away) -- Questlove threw his drumsticks in the audience and I feel in love with Cap'n Kirk, he gave a whole Jimi Hendrix tribute session. (#sidenote: How I Got Over is the best album this summer!), even though I was two seconds away from my picture with them I did get to meet some of the band members.

Madison Square Garden: One of my good friends an intern at Madison Square Garden, not only did she get free tickets to a concert but it was my first time in there and it was a show to see two of my favorite artist of all time -- Maxwell and Erykah Badu (we missed Badu trying to see Common, which now that I'm writing this I think is pretty funny!) I really felt like Maxwell was singing to me and only me, well atleast some of the photos it looks that way. *snaps back to reality*

First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum: Every first Saturday from June to September, the Brooklyn Museum opens up from 5 - 11 p.m. with tons of free stuff to do -- from touring exhibits to arts and crafts to karaoke to dance parties. I went during the first Saturday in July and got to tour the Andy Warhol exhibit, which was awesome. In honor of Warhol, there was an 80s dance party in the street -- oddly I felt like a 80s baby because I knew almost every song that was played. The last on before I got back to school is August 7th.

On Broadway! : I've never been more happy to be a student until I got $27 tickets to see Fela last Saturday -- the tickets were "obscured view" but I saw everything just fine and we got to meet the actors after. Honestly, it was one of the best broadway plays I've seen (obviously, I mean it did win a Tony!) but I loved the dancing, the live music, but more importantly the message -- I left the performance feeling moved and informed. Now that I know there is a Student Rush or Lottery for so many Broadways in New York, I have to see at least two more.

EA Sports Launch Party: This party, hosted by Team Epiphany, was filled with movers-and-shakers, the DJ was dope -- no exaggeration, and all we did was play the new Need For Speed video game and network (of course there were complimentary drinks -- some blue Vodka that made my night great!) After, we went to Greenhouse -- free drinks all night! (did I mention the owner bought us a bottle? --- the young.broke.and fabulous life)

Boredom: BP Coffee Spill

One word about this video: loved. It was hilarious (I literally LOLed at work) but it also points out BP's ridiculous tactics in attempting to clean up the spill.

But in real life: BP has repaired the leaking valve in the containment cap and will began to attempt test now that the problem is "fixed" (hopefully for good!) after 3 months... (NY Times)

Big hair. Big voice. Big heart. Nneka Egbuna is on her way to becoming a big star (well, in the US at least – she’s already been compared to Lauryn Hill in the UK, I swear they have better artist!) I don’t remember how I first got introduced to her (I think she came on my Pandora – where I get introduced to awesome music on a daily basis) but I heard her song Heartbeat and I immediately had to Google her. I fell in love with her beautiful, ‘I-don’t-care’, enormous Afro, but more importantly I fell in love with her words – they were so powerful (then she started rapping and I was like whoa!).

The Nigerian-German, who released her first US album, Concrete Jungle, earlier this year, sings and freestyles over tracks with a reggae rock sound. (She’s like Bob Marley, Talib Kweli, Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill combined in one!) She talks about everything from love, hope, black consciousness, issues in her hometown Warri in Nigeria and the relationship between America and Africa. This girl has got a voice!

London produces some of the best artists – (Adele, Amy Winehouse, Duffy, The Beatles…the list goes on) and the indie pop soul singer VV Brown (whose surname is Vanessa) doesn’t fall short. Not to mention her style is something to watch – she even modeled for the 2009 April/May Issue of Vogue and she’s gorgeous!

I first heard the English singer, songwriter and at times freestyle rapper (she said she would battle Mr. West!) about a month ago when I needed some new music to put on my iTunes and my friend/ music soul mate told me to download I Love You and I ended up buying the whole album. Then BAM! this month she’s one of Elle’s Women in Music to watch in 2010 for their July issue (make sure you check it out there are lots of great woman artists and Rihanna works the cover!) In the article she talks about how people in the industry tried to change her musically, but she was stubborn and kept true to herself and hasn’t changed since – love her for this.

With her London accent, funky style and unforgettable vocals V V Brown (who is Jamaican and Puerto Rican) is on her way to becoming something big. She released her first studio album, Travelling Like the Light, in 2009 – which if I could describe in one word is fun from the production to the lyrics (she’s no Amy, but she’s making a name for herself) she also has a few ballads. Right now she’s on a summer tour with Maroon 5 and Owl City, unfortunately she won’t be in NYC while I’m here.

Talib Kweli has a video for his song Ballad of The Black Gold from his new album with Hi-Tek Revolutions Per Minute (which is a must have for the summer!)

Nodding my head to the beat, I remember I first heard this song when he was performing (for the free) at the iTunes store in SoHo the song spoke volumes especially addressing corrupt govrenment and the oil issues in Nigeria and now that I saw the video, I feel the same way. (Actually. I wouldn't expect anything less)

With everything covered in oil, the video brings the oil spill to life (as though the oil-covered pelicans and jobless shrimpers weren't enough). It's crazy because this song was written before the oil spill occurred (his album was release May 18th, the oil spill into the Gulf on April 22nd) -- the spill will effect this country for years to come and this video couldn't be more relevant.

I read about this on Fashionista earlier this week and forgot to post about it. But this further proves that Anna Wintour, whether you love her or you hate her, runs the world (well...the fashion world) - it's getting pretty ridiculous. (this one made me lol and smh - literally)

Apparently, Wintour's 3-day stay in Milan instead of for the whole week forced some designers to reschedule their Fashion Week appearances and introduced Wintour "protestors" who united for a "cause" by imitatingWintour in ridiculous blonde bob wigs, oversized black sunglasses and t-shirts bearing the phrase "I will only stay 3 days" before the Gucci Fall 2010 Show. (like there wasn't just an earthquake in Chile....) I still can't believe one woman caused this much uproar but the senseless protest is what made me laugh the most - I don't quite understand what their protesting...."that she stay longer?"

This will be me one day. :) (Anna, not the protestors)

Drake keeps proving himself and I don't even know if he has to anymore. He has finally released a track from his actual album, Thank Me Later, called "Over" - it's definitely gonna be in my new rotation. Oh and one of my favorite things about the song - he uses a Lauryn Hill line. :) Can't wait for the official album. Download the Song!

food for thought: Sakana Japanese Restaurant

I realized that I would do anything humanly possible for sushi yesterday, when I crutched (yes, I still have those) down Georgia Avenue to catch a taxi to Dupont Circle to eat sushi that my friend Kevin said was the best he ever had. Of course, I jumped at the idea of going to eat lunch there - partly because I'm convinced he know all of the best food places in DC and whole-heartedly because a piece of sushi can brighten my day at any point.

We ended up going down Georgia to V Street and found the world's worst cab driver (but not worse than when my friend Maya and I took a cab to the Kennedy Center and the cab driver didn't know what that was...) who didn't need any help with direction and ended up going the wrong way anyways. So we actually ended up walking (I crutched, not a word I know) four more blocks to get to the restaurant and finally we arrived at Sakana Japanese Restaurant.

After having my meal it was SO worth it. We ordered Edamame for the two of us and when I saw it was the best Edamame I've ever had I'm not exaggerating. It was so fresh with the perfect amount of salt and the perfect amount of cooking. Kevin ordered the Vegetarian Tempura and I ordered Tempura with shrimp, fish eggs and zuchini.

It's always nice to have a little mid-day lunch off campus and not on Georgia Avenue, a break from everyone, and a chance to actually explore the place that I will be living for the next two years. It's definitely not the most luxurious sushi spot, it's not a cool spot where really cool artisty people hang out but located in Dupont Circle, Sakana Japanese Restaurant is definitely my new sushi spot (it still doesn't top Sticky Rice!) and hey who would complain when you can get sushi for $9.95. It's the perfect, low profile spot (you actually have to take a few steps down to get in) for a quick lunch during the week or to go after a yoga class.

Since I didn't get a chance to go to NY Fashion Week (or London or Milan Fashion Week for that matter) this season, I had look at all of the collections on-line like all the other normal people in the world.

As I was sitting at home (I've been on crutches for three days unfortunately due to some freak accident I had in the computer lab, people keep assuming I actually did something cool to get these like a skiing accident or popping my knee out of place but that's not the case - it's quite embarassing so I won't linger here for too long) I realized the effect that nicely tailored, creative clothing had on me when I squealed with excitement as I was clicking through the 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2010 Runway Collection (it was by far my favorite). The things that designers do with clothes amaze me as well as the things people do with food (I'm now obsessed with the Food Network)

Fall and Spring are my favorite seasons and this year's collections definitely gave me something to look forward to in September aside from what my Halloween costume is going to be. Here are some of my favorite looks: (I was a little disappointed with my favorite designer Marc Jacobs - he just didn't put anything on the runway that stunned me this season). All I can say for this season is fur, fur, fur, and more faux fur along with pantsuits, wool shorts, and the perfect "jacket" - whether it be a blazer, trench, or fur.

Fabulous idea: Recently, I have become absolutely obsessed with and inspired by Demetria Lucas' (Essence's Relationship Editor) blog - abelleinbrooklyn.com, so I decided that in addition to post about fashion I want to post about the dating experience in college and other topics that might come about while being in college. (my creative juices are definitely flowing)

1st topic: Can a girl have a guy friend that she is genuinely attracted to, hangs out with, and fools around with sometimes without any attachment or feelings of wanting to be more - or is this too unrealistic to ask for?

Sure, sure - guys might argue that girls catch feelings too often but looking back at my past experiences, I have tried this once and it didn't work because the other person (the guy) caught feelings and maybe that was because we didn't start off as friends? (now we can never be "real" friends) I kept leading him on (not on purpose) to something that would never happen. But once you or the other person catches feelings the whole "friend" title gets thrown out the window and what exactly your relationship is becomes a blur. This may work out for the better if you both have feelings for each other but if the feelings are one-sided, someone is bound to get hurt.

I'm all up for trying things again, so I might try this whole "friend" thing again but I need to make some guidelines, rules, things to avoid so this time it won't fail. (Even though sometimes, what your heart feels overpowers any set rules or guidelines)

Disclaimer: If you are trying to do this with someone you previously dated (especially for a long period of time) I highly doubt this will work. I mean you guys may "think" your friends to keep things from being awkward but your NOT friends, you have history. It's great to still be cool with your ex's (unless they did some grimy ish...), it actually gives you someone to talk to when your going through that "I'm single like for real, for real" period, but if you guys didn't start off as friends then you'll never be "real" friends. #exception (there's always one of these) This actually worked for me once, I went out on a date and I "talked" to the guy who is my male best friend to this day.

BUDDY GUIDELINES:

"It's a different type of commitment, I'm talking about a true friendship."

1. Clear understanding

It's all about being upfront and making a clear distinction between what it is and what it's not - lay it all down before there is room for romantic emotions. I mean it's fine to care for each other, there has to be some level of trust but this is more about having fun and feeling free than anything.

2. Jealously

When you start to get jealous, that's when you start to see this person as more than your friend. Jealously on either end is a "no,no." Once the jealously starts, this needs to end - it will stop the hurt and the hurting. Questions of "where were you? why were you doing this? are you talking to so and so?" are the beginnings of the jealously stage.

3. Maturity

Before you get yourself into this, I feel like you have to be a mature person - which doesn't mean you have to be "older" but just confident in your thoughts and yourself. You have to be sure your are emotionally capable of handling this, because some people aren't.

4. Don't Do Relationship Things

Don't ever make things awkward by doing things you would do in a relationship. One of my good friends was telling me that this guy asked her for advice. He wanted to know if he could take out his friend who he was attracted to out for a romantic dinner and then just go back to being her friend the next day. (WTF? - this creates confusion). This is a friendship, not a committed relationship so it's cool if your guys go out for lunch or to see a movie, but if he didn't pay for you when you guys were just "friends" then he shouldn't pay for you now that he is your buddy.

5. FUNIt's all about having fun and trying new things, so don't think twice just do it. This can either be one of the most memorable and exciting experiences of your life or the most confusing and stressful but this isn't even my boyfriend times of your life - you chose.

So what do you think? Let me know - I want your opinions and I'll tell you if this actually works, because it all seems good in theory.

Lara Stone is definitely the new "it" model, she is the new face for Louis Vuitton taking the place of Madonna and is featured in the "Love At First Sight" fashion editorial (styled by the amazing Grace Coddington) in the March 2010 Issue of Vogue (which gets the stamp of fabulous), I am infatuated with her gap - it's what makes her so uniquely beautiful and the fact that she actually has some meat on her bones.

Flipping through the pages of my monthly obsession, Vogue, I spotted another model Georgia May Jagger in the Spring/Summer 2010 Ad for Hudson Jeans exposing her most beautiful asset - the gap.

Last season, another gapped tooth model was featured in the Fall/Winter 2009/2010 Gucci Ad Campaign with long red hair and blunt bangs.

Gaps definitely add a flawlessly flawed appeal to any fashion shoot, those models stand out amongst the other models - I wonder when the frequent appearance of African American models (not just the same token ones - Chanel Iman, Jourdan Dunn, Liya Kebede) will happen on the pages of fashion magazines instead of there being some surprise or quick gasp when the face of a beautiful black model appears in a fashion ad.

"I thought there were only three ways you could get hurt but there are really like five" - me at 3'o clock in the morning to my two best friends.

Disclaimer: I planned never to blog about my personal life on here, but writing is my therapy so I had to get this out sooner or later. It took me a week, 1/4 of a month, 10,080 minutes to fully digest how I felt about the situation only to realize I felt the same way as I did when it happened: heartbroken. You know how when you watched the last episode of the Game thinking about what would happen next season then the news came about the show getting canceled. There's no regrets and I should have done better but there is the damn it's like that though feeling but at the same time "I'm so disappointed in your actions that I can no longer care for you as a human being. I even made this ridiculous Itunes Playlist that included - Lost Ones, Lauryn Hill and Love Is A Losing Game, Amy Winehouse. I actually asked God if he could remove feelings so stuff like this wouldn't happen again (ridiculous I know? I'm pretty sure he laughed at me.)
You know how when something bad happens to you and you start to think about the things you did in the past and wonder if this was karma - that was me. I keep looking back into my past to the people I may have hurt, the hearts I may have broken, and the people I have lied to - I keep thinking I must have done something. But all I could do was laugh (of course this was way later), not only because of how ridiculous my reasoning was getting but because I'm 19 years old and I was starting to take my life too seriously - WHOA BUDDY!

As I described it to my friends, you know how you have that dog when your three and he runs away and you always tell the story but you can never remember its name? - that's what this is. (Ok,ok...I'm exaggerating) But this is definitely a lesson and I am really trying not to be that girl that becomes bitter towards men but in a way this proves to me that ALL men are the same (maybe men was the wrong word? kidding...) But deep down (I mean like 20 feet) inside I still plan to give guys the benefit of the doubt, I "really" don't think their all the same - I'm actually a romantic sap and my favorite movie is Love Jones.

"When you get into a relationship you have to keep two things in mind - this can last forever or this is going to end and if you keep those two things in mind then it might hurt when the ending part happens but you already prepared yourself" - my brother (a.k.a #shop)

The lesson I learned? I don't know if I actually learned a lesson about being in a relationship but rather I wasn't quite ready (did I mention I was 19?) I'm definitely not ready to put in the time, the commitment, and whatever else you put in there to make it work....I'm too focused on myself right now and hey! that's not a bad thing right? I wanna make some more mistakes...(interpret it how you please). I have a hard time showing my feelings about the whole situation though cause sometimes I have these random moments where I get really pissed off and sometimes I randomly wanna cry but...then I'm a keep my emotions inside don't let em' see you sweat type of person, so this never actually happens. But I have also learned that it's ok to have feelings for someone, it's ok to cry, it's ok to admit your hurt - that's the biggest lesson I learned of them all.

I also learned I have some pretty awesome friends (this is an understatement) but I'm really happy with my life and the people in it, I know they will always be there for me - whoever I hate they hate, whoever I love they love and they always tell me what I need to hear not what I want to hear. For that, I am blessed. :)

It's funny how the same things can apply to your life no matter what the time span or how old you are....and now I'm reading Eat.Pray.Love (Elizabeth Gilbert) once again - I read this everytime I'm going through something.

This quote from the book continues to apply to every relationship I attempt to get into:

"I have a history of making decisions very quickly about men. I have always fallen in love fast and without measuring risks. I have a tendency not to only see the best in everyone, but to assume that everyone is emotionally capable of reaching his highest potential. I have fallen in love more times than I care to count with the highest potential of a man, rather than the man himself, and then I have hung on to the relationship for a long time waiting for the man to ascend to his own greatness. Many times in romance I have been a victim of my own optimism." - eat.pray.love.

Although the video somewhat reminded me of M.I.A.(look at some of M.I.A.'s Boyz music video) and the long weave was a "no-no".

There was lots of rump-shaking, slow winding, naughty innuendos, Andy Warhol and Caribbean inspired color use, and hairstyles as Rihanna stays true to her bad girl, fashion forward image - in a much happier way - in the Rude Boy music video. (my obsession with her continues). I loved this video, in fact I've watched it five times today - mostly to look at the different short hairstyles because I just cut my hair short and I get bored really easy. (I'm actually planning on a little blonde for the spring!)

I have two favorite scenes in the video which are also the ones with the most humor: when Rihanna looks down the boy's pants singing "Call me rude boy boy is you big enough" and when she winks at the camera in a black and white body suit with Janelle Monae inspired hair singing "baby if I don't feel it I aint faking no,no" as she rides a fake zebra.

My favorite looks are: the Stripper boots that she wears while playing the drums and the baseball cap with the Chanel sunglasses, hoop earings, and Alexander McQueen (may he R.I.P.) leggings.

So...Valentine's Day is coming up - although I think the holiday is somewhat ridiculous (like why can't women get flowers on a random Saturday afternoon?) - it's still fun to think about what to wear whether you're going out with your glamorous girlfriends or that special someone in your life. I decided to use polyvore.com (it's become quite obsessive) to create all of the looks. Every outfit either has pink or red and are pieces of clothing I am currently loving right now. ONLY RULE: Heels Is A Must :)

Take One: It's All About The Trousers - Get Them (The Pants) at TopShop for only $65, I love the slouchy menswear look that trousers give then I decided to dress it up with a ruffled top and Chanel pearls (always a classic). - By the way, the flower is actually this clutch I thought would bring out the red in the necklace.

Perfect For: a nice dinner with your best girlfriends.

Valentine's Day Take 1 by thairston16 featuring Karen Millen bags

Take Two: Show It Off - It's all about showing your assets and with this look - the legs are it. I love the fact that a simple t-shirt can be dressed up with a hip-hugging hot pink skirt and a tuxedo blazer. Tip: Try to take an old t-shirt of your boyfriends and wear it with a tight pencil skirt - I'm sure it will make that "special" someone smile. :)

Perfect For: a concert, dance lessons, or dinner at semi-dressy restaurant.

Take Three: A Little Bit - I'm in LOVE with cropped t-shirts, they bring a hidden sexiness to every appearance showing a little bit of skin and the red pumps bring it up another notch while the black bowler hat adds a touch of whimsicality. Add some red nail polish and a leather jacket, perfection.

Perfect For: a day date whether it's brunch and ice-skating, a matinee and a cooking class or a spa day .

Take Four: Let Him Chose. This lace leotard is HOT, it creates a sexy but chic look! - send the guy your dating (only if your comfortable) a picture of this lace leotard and ask him what you should wear with it - with pictures of the choices quickly following of course :). Tip: American Apparel sells Lace Leotards - in black,beige, and hot pink - for $34.00.

Perfect For: a fancy candlelit home-cooked dinner with some slow dancing to Sade or Amel Larrieux Pandora.

Take Five: All Glam'd Up - Navy is The New Black. I absolutely love this look, it screams young and sophisticated. I feel in love with the shoes and necklace and just decided to add red tights for the spice, the fur just makes it even more FAB. Tip: Try finding a vintage fur at the thrift.

Perfect For: a glamorous evening - a sophisticated dinner with tickets to the opera/ballet. (think GLAM)

He Said What?: Trey Songz Honey Mag Interview

His perfectly plump kissable lips make me wish he was mine but the words that were coming out of his mouth during this interview made me say what?. (or maybe all men think this way?... at least he was being real... still FINE...from a distance though)

Honey Mag recently did an interview with the highly underrated R&B singer Trey Songz, whose vocal chords do the same for my ears as his abs do for my eyes (...). When I say Songz opened up on this interview, I mean the man OPENED up about everything. (STDS, sex, Kelis and Nas, his porn addiction and of course his upcoming album Ready.)

Here's a little excerpt from the interview...Yuup:

About Porn:

Honey: Let's jump right in it. You are a proud supporter of porn?

Songz: Yeah. I think porn is cool.

Honey: But some things look better than they feel.
Songz:Yea there are some things that happen in porn that some girls can never do in real life (laughs), you know what I mean, unless they are porn stars. I think that’s the cool part about it. It’s like ‘damn, that’s crazy.’

Honey:Do you prefer it when you are alone or when you are with your girl?
Songz: Either.

About Sex:

Honey: What's the difference between the chick you make your girl, and someone who's just a jump?
Songz: My girl gets love. A jump gets sex.

Honey: And what are your favorite things to use in the bedroom?
Songz: My tongue and my penis (laughs).

Honey: You said that you are not into fetishes, but do you role play?
Songz: I will and I have with my girlfriend. I think it has to be [with your girlfriend]. You shouldn’t just do that with anybody.

Songz: No.

Songz: I say drunken sex. 'Cause with morning sex, the morning may not be right. Some girls aren’t made for mornings (laughs).
Honey: You wake up to a lot of ugly women?
Songz: No, I don’t really have sex in the morning unless it’s really somebody special.
Honey: They don’t sleep over.
Songz: Nah.

About STDs:

Honey: With all this sex, you ever take a trip to the clinic?
Songz: Yes.
Honey: You ever got anything before?
Songz: When I was like 16 or 17, this girl gave me crabs. It was the most uncomfortable shit in the world. I was confused because ain't nobody know I was having sex. So I was like damn what the fuck is going on? I even had to cut all my hair off and I had to eventually tell somebody. And had to go to the doctor.

Honey: And you told her?
Songz: Yea I told her. It was wild experience. We were young. And that was kind of crazy and it was the worst so when I told her she tried to deny it. And I just basically stopped talking to her.

His upcoming album Ready:

Honey: Now with Ready, you have these pre-order packages.

Songz: Yup.
Honey: Why did you guys decide to do that?
Songz:Pre-order packages are for my real fans to see whose going to go get it. It’s a lot to offer there. I think with the pre-order packages you see how hard I go for my fans. It was my product manager’s ideas to put some pictures together and put out something genuine my fans can hold on to. I came with the idea of the “Yuuup” t-shirt and the media department came with the idea of the live video chat.

When He stops being having multiple sex partners:

Honey: How many kids do you want to have?
Songz: I want to have a lot of kids. I love kids.

Food For Thought: Whole Foods, Columbus Circle

Found this as I was stumbling around New York.
There's a Jamba Juice inside of Whole Foods, enough said.

Only thing that puts a damper on the green-organic crazed grocery heaven is the popular location which creates LONG LINES but the computerized line teller makes the process seem pretty short-term (except for the people in lala land who are too into the cute guys behind them to pay attention to the line number called (there are like 40 cashier stations), ugh.) And...there's a cafeteria there for people who are so obsessed they stay for breakfast, lunch, and even dinner. (that's me)

Don't leave with out your chic "I'm saving the environment, what are you doing?" Better bag, to stunt on all those other non-green Kroger shoppers :-)

For Fabulous Eyes Only: P.S. Bookshop

Today I established my love for Brooklyn. I mean I never really disliked the borough, it more like lack of exploration. While exploring and feeding my inner nerdyness, my friend Jessica (the same one from the previous post cause I don't have that many friends here *sad face*) and I stumbled upon this quaint bookstore called P.S Bookshop . It sells used and rare books of every kind of book you can think of (they even have some first edition copies) and since books and I have this page turning relationship, of course I had to buy something. (did I mention the books are dirt CHEAP and they had this section for books about fashion...oh I was sold)

I bought something timeless: Diane Von Furstenberg's biography (hardcover) for eight bucks and something new: The Age Issue for Vogue for this month. (they both should be great reads). The fashion section there made me want to invest in a sign "will work for fashion books," they had everything from Dior in "Vogue" to an autographed copy of Grace Mirabella's biography (the EIC of Vogue before Anna Wintour). They even had The VIBE History of Hip Hop book, which kind of made me tear up. (the book had EVERYTHING about hip hop in it, I loved it)

This bookstore is no Border's or Barnes And Nobles (I mean they are great when you are in a rush with convenience of a Starbucks), which is why I love it, they even have ladders for people to get on to get those out of reach books. Its so classic and independent. which is what qualifies it for a stamp of fabulous.

Food For Thought: Vinegar Hill House

Sundays are supposed to be relaxed, a quintessential time to reflect on the past week and think of what's next up on the agenda and today didn't fall short to those expectations at all. With the haute green light from Vogue magazine, my friend Jessica and I hopped on the F train to Brooklyn to check out the cozy and hidden yet oddly chic restaurant Vinegar Hill House. (food always relaxs me) :-)

It was very "grown up," or at least it made me feel that way. From the aged and rusty wooden white doorway hidden behind a green windowed screen, it looks the least suitable for a restaurant, especially aVogue recommended restaurant. (We almost walked past it because the only thing it bared pertaining to a sign was "No. Seventy-Two," its address.) But once we stepped inside of the cottage-like Vinegar Hill House, the location fit its atmosphere perfectly all the way down to the brick-paved streets on Hudson Avenue where it sits. It made me feel at home, like I wouldn't have minded staying there for a day or two (minus the fact that the bugs were starting to come out...I have minor bug-phobia but there is seating inside too), some how Brooklyn has created a small country in the Gotham. We sat outside in the "garden-like" backyard with worn wooden tables and rusted metal chairs, surrounded by beautiful scenery from the vine growing on the perfectly chipped painted brick wall to the wild flowers and trees growing in the soil. What made me even more thrilled with the restaurant was the food of course (I mean looks can only get you so far), the menu was small yet diverse at the same time with unique, healthy, and out of the ordinary choices, and a wide array of wine choices. (they even serve octopus and quail...like I said very "grown-up," at least your taste buds should be.) As for the prices, I would say mildly expensive. You can get dinner, a drink, and dessert for a good 26 buckaroos.

I ordered the pasta special they were offering for Sunday with noodles that were hand-made and a thin meat sauce drizzled over it. The portion was quite small, which at first I thought...WTF I need an "Olive Garden" pasta but it turned out to be very filling without making me feel like I should get on a massive work-out plan after the last bite. (I even had room for dessert). My friend ordered the Cast Iron Chicken, which is like their house special, and of course I tasted it and it was SOOOO amazing. Honestly the best baked chicken I have ever had, I even tried the sauteed sweet onions. (note: I absolutely despise onions). For dessert, we spilt the Strawberry Shortcake,which was of course superb. Instead of the usual soft cake, this one had a bit of a "tough" shell with thick whipped cream and glazed strawberries in the middle of the cake. (Simply delectable) Might I add that our waiter was great and he wasn't half bad looking either.

So, Vinegar Hill House gets the stamp of fabulous from me and Vogue (now you definitely have to go try it...a couple of celebrities have even been spotted there) plus it's the perfect date spot, well at night because they have christmas like lighting outside and its right by the Brooklyn Bridge. (I need credit for the idea if it turns into a date *serious face*)

Hello World...

It is exactly 4:30 in the A.M., the perfect time to welcome my new baby into the "blogger world". Yes, this is my baby and I plan to handle it with care, although I have been through two blogs already this one is gonna be IT! I finally have a clear direction about what I want to talk about...NOTHING! I don't want to make any guidelines or themes, just talk about what I feel like at the given moment and time.

At this very moment I am listening to Pandora on my BB (Blackberry for all you uncool other haven't quite seen the light PDA phone users) but I am listening to music on my BB because the inconsistent internet at the place that I'm renting from in Brooklyn decided to go out on the day I want to write my first blog post (just my luck!), which is hindering from posting this. *sad face* But enough of my technology obsessed ravings, let's talk more about my future masterpiece, The B.A.N (The Blog About Nothing)

Yes, there have been many blogs with this same "name" (which is why I couldn't make this my domain name) but of course not with the same author nor purpose. The name of my blog came from the rapper Wale's mixtape The Mixtape About Nothing (which is hotness indeed), but the blog name also sparked from the nature of my random associations. I pretty much have an interest in everything (this is not an exaggeration), which is why it becomes so daunting when I think about what I want to do with my life (there's so much to choose from). BUT... If I had to narrow it down to two, then my heart would be with music and fashion. These are two things that I can relate anything in my life to, whether I'm uber excited or ready to jump off a cliff (figuratively speaking).

Music: Is one of the most powerful things on this planet. It has the power to make you feel, express your emotions, love, hate, cry. Some songs make you wish you were head over heels in love and other songs make you hope for heartbreak even when you are in love just to endure the emotion of the words sung over a sentimental melody.It has the power to motivate, intimidate, create opinion, bring people together, and break barriers. Music creates possibilities.

Fashion: Another very powerful commodity, it allows other to express themselves without words (some better than others). This is where I want to be, not just because I happen to be blessed with the ability to put together an striking ensemble but because of the impact that fashion has all over the world. The barriers designers have broken,like CoCo Chanel with women's fashion, and the messages that just one fashion ad or fashion trend can send to the world. I love how every element that you pick out of your closet, every jean, every shoe style, every color has been thoughtfully picked out by the experts in the fashion world whether you like it or not, which is why I love the blue sweater scene from the Devil Wears Prada. I want to be apart of this world, I plan to be the next Anna Wintour and June Ambrose put together (they are both the epitome of fabulous).

Music and Fashion together? Now we've got something. They go together hand-in-hand, each influencing one another...which is why you can't love one and not love the other.
